The Principle Of Aluminum Die Casting

Aluminum die casting is a highly efficient metal forming process. Its core lies in using high pressure to rapidly inject molten aluminum or aluminum alloy into a precision metal mold cavity. Under pressure, the molten metal cools and solidifies rapidly, ultimately forming a casting of the desired shape and size.

The key to this process lies in the design of the mold and the application of high pressure. The mold is typically made of high-strength alloy to ensure it does not deform under high pressure, while also guaranteeing the precision and surface quality of the casting. Aluminum die casting is particularly suitable for manufacturing large quantities of small to medium-sized castings because it achieves high dimensional consistency and surface smoothness.

Aluminum die casting processes are mainly divided into cold chamber die casting and hot chamber die casting. In cold chamber die casting, molten metal is poured into the pressure chamber manually or automatically, and then the injection punch advances, pushing the metal into the cavity. This method is suitable for a variety of metals and alloys, and has a longer mold life. In hot chamber die casting, the pressure chamber is perpendicular to the crucible. Molten metal flows automatically into the pressure chamber through the inlet, and the injection punch moves downward, pushing the molten metal through the gooseneck tube into the cavity. Hot chamber die casting offers high production efficiency but is better suited for low-melting-point metals and alloys.

Whether cold or hot chamber die casting, the die-casting mold opens after the molten metal solidifies, allowing the casting to be removed and completing the entire die-casting process. Aluminum die casting is widely used in the automotive, electronics, and aerospace industries due to its high efficiency, precision, and suitability for large-scale production.
